Distance to the conference venue: 10min walking

Sidney Sussex College is in the heart of Cambridge, close to King's Chapel, Trinity College and the market square. Visitors will experience the ambience of a real Cambridge college, living in quaint medieval buildings, having breakfast in the college hall and walking through quiet backyard gardens.

Sidney Sussex College will provide 60 en-suite single rooms and 40 standard single rooms including breakfast for attendees of ISMAR 2008.

  • En-suite room £62 - bath in the room
  • Standard room £42 - bath facilities shared between multiple rooms

Booking is now available as part of registration.

College rooms are situated in the college itself, amongst medieval court yards and green gardens. En-suite rooms provide all modern comforts with their own bath room, while standard rooms are similar to student accommodation and share bath and toilet facilities between several rooms.

There are no en-suite rooms available anymore.

Wired Internet access requires registration for it. Please, mention in the comments section on the booking form that you would like to use it. Otherwise, it will not be enabled for your room.

Staying at the college

The main entrance to the college is on Sidney Street, opposite of the Sainsbury's supermarket. Look for the entrance gate in the long wall along the street. The room keys are available at the Porter's Lodge, just inside the main gate. Any open bills for staying additional days must be settled upon arrival.

Check-in at the college is possible between 14:00 pm to 23:00 am on the day of arrival. On day of departure the rooms must be cleared by 10:00 am.

If you arrive later then 23:00, you must call the porter's lodge at the number given above!

Getting to the college

The college is located at the heart of the city centre. The front gate and Porters' Lodge are on Sidney Street, and the back gate is on Hobson Street. Should you ask the way, it is worth remembering that the college is opposite Sainsbury's - not everyone knows where the college is, but nearly everyone knows where Sainsbury's is! Unfortunately, the college car park is very small and so we are ordinarily unable to provide visitors with parking.

By Rail

Sidney is a twenty-minute walk from Cambridge railway station - follow Station Road, Regent Street, St Andrews Street and then Sidney Street. There are regular buses to the city centre - numbers 3, 4, 5 and 5a to Arbury will all take you to Drummer Street bus station. There is also a taxi rank outside the station.

From Drummer Street/Park side Bus Station

The College is a five-minute walk from Drummer Street and Park side bus stations. These are the bus stops for National Express buses from all airports. Take Emmanuel Street - not Emmanuel Road - then turn right into St Andrews Street, and keep straight on for Sidney Street.

By Car

Both traffic and parking in Cambridge are a nightmare, and by far the best approach is to use one of the city's five Park and Ride sites, as follows:

  • West (off the A45) - Madingley Road Park and Ride
  • East (off the A14) - Newmarket Road Park and Ride
  • North (off the A10) - Cowley Road Park and Ride
  • Southeast (off the A604) - Babraham Road Park and Ride
  • Southwest (off the A10/A1301/M11) - Trumpington Park and Ride

The Park and Ride sites are all well signposted off the major routes into Cambridge. The number 77 bus serves the Madingley Road and Newmarket Road sites, the number 99 serves the Cowley Road and Babraham Road sites, and the number 88 serves the Trumpington site. Parking is free; the return bus fare is £1.20.

Visitors approaching Cambridge from the South are advised to take the M11 and exit at Junction 13, which is adjacent to the Madingley Road Park and Ride site.

There are also some multi-storey car parks in Cambridge, but these are hugely expensive (up to £15 per stay) and often full. However, should you wish to fight the traffic and pay up, the closest to Sidney is Park Street car park; this is accessible only via Victoria Avenue, Maids Causeway and then Jesus Lane.

By Car similar directions as for Sidney Sussex apply. Please note, that there are NO parking places available, therefore it is best to use the Park and Ride sites.
