Paper/Poster Submission Details

All ISMAR program chairs and reviewers must accept a confidentiality agreement, which obligates them to treat the submitted papers as confidential information. In case a paper/poster is accepted, publication will be at the first day of the conference, 15th September 2008.

For this year, we will accept the following categories of submissions:

Full-length papers are up to ten pages long and are held to rigorous standards of contribution and evaluation.

Short papers are up to four pages in length and the expected amount of contribution is less due to the shorter format. Short papers generally may not include exhaustive implementation details or user studies.

Examples of topics appropriate for the short paper format are:

• A smaller, focused research result that can be completely described and justified in 4 pages, and does not merit a 10 page full paper.
• A novel concept or application that does not have the level ofimplementation and evaluation expected of a 10 page full paper.

These are only suggestions; the short paper format is open to other topics appropriate to its length.

Contributions are submitted as an extended abstract of up to 2 pages in length. The main reviewing criteria are novelty and usefulness to the ISMAR community.

ISMAR is a high-quality conference with a competitive submission process. In 2007, ISMAR accepted only 30% of the papers submitted. ISMAR has a rigorous reviewing process that is similar to the processes used by ACM SIGGRAPH and ACM UIST. We have two tiers of reviewers: the area chairs and the program committee. Each paper is assigned to an area chair, and that person will procure at least four and three reviews from the independent program committee or external reviewers for full and short papers respectively, in addition to providing a metareview. Then the area and program chairs will meet in person to discuss the papers and determine which to accept. Reviews will be single blind (i.e., include authorship information with the submitted paper/poster.) Posters will be also reviewed through the same procedure that short papers are.

Accepted full-length and short papers will be presented at the conference. The allotted presentation time will depend upon the categories of the paper. Accepted posters will be displayed on large boards. Poster authors can present their work to conference attendees during the poster session and will also have one minute to describe their poster during a “poster teasers” preview before the poster session. Accepted papers and poster abstracts will be published in the proceedings.

1. Papers and posters must be in English.
2. A submission can only be submitted under one category (full paper, short paper, or poster). You must not submit the same material simultaneously to different categories (e.g., as both a full paper and a poster).
3. Previously published work may not be submitted, nor may the work be concurrently submitted to any other conference or journal. Such papers will be rejected without review.
4. Paper and poster submissions must be formatted for 8.5”x11” paper. Please follow the IEEE Computer Society TCVG authoring guidelines: http://www.cs.sfu.ca/~vis/Tasks/camera.html
5. Papers and posters must be submitted as PDF documents.
6. Authors may include supplementary materials (such as a video) with the submission, and such materials are highly encouraged if they provide evidence of the claimed contribution. Videos should not be longer than 5 minutes long, and the total size of all submitted materials (including the PDF doucment) must be under 50MB. If you include a video, also include a text file describing what codec you used to create the video. Videos should be playable by either the current Windows Media Player or Apple Quicktime player. It is preferable that your video be playable by these standard players without requiring additional codec installations. If you require a special codec (e.g. DivX), make certain that you include instructions on how to find and install that codec. If the reviewers cannot play your video file, it will reduce the chances of your submission being accepted.
7. The submission should include all information necessary to evaluate the paper and must not ask reviewers to go to web sites or other external information sources, since that may jeopardize the anonymity of the reviewers. Submissions that require external sites will either be returned for correction or rejected without review.

Abstracts are due on 28th April 2008 (1 week before final submissions). Abstract submissions will be made electronically at http://precisionconference.com/~ismar/ (see below). Please submit a document (text, PDF, or MS Word) describing:

• Title
• Author list including the authors' affiliations
• Abstract. Please limit the abstracts to 150 words for full papers, 100 for short papers and 75 words for posters
